now the java version of the ElephantDrive backup program is available for general release. No more .NET dependencies (thank god).
Not sure if it has anything to do with Java, but it runs much faster now.

ElephantDrive has saved me on more than one occasion. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. At best one of your hard drives will die, at worst it will be lost or stolen (my choice). When that happens, you will miss your data and pictures unless you are a subscriber. If I could, I would give ElephantDrive a hug.

Hands down - the best purchase I made for myself this year was an ElephantDrive subscription.

Fastest online storage service I've tried...
Pros: I've tried a whole bunch of the online backup services and they are all pretty challenging to sue if you have a lot of data because it can take a long time to back up. ElephantDrive was the fastest service I've used yet. I'm not sure why people don't talk about this more, because it matters a lot.
I also like that you can use the service as a large file transfer tool. Helps for sending video when email can't handle the attachment size.
Cons: I would like to see more detail in the backup reporting.

Easy to set up - easy to use. I'm pretty paranoid and I use an extrenal drive at home, but I feel a lot safer knowing I've got my data "in the cloud."

This product is great. I can set up a backup to run automatically and not have to worry about it again. I can access my files from anywhere at anytime, so if I need a file and I'm nowhere near my computer I can still access it. I can also share files with my friends with just a click of a button. The best part is the price. For 4.95 month I get unlimited online storage. This is better than most of the other online storage sites that I have looked at. This is the only one that offers unlimited storage. It runs smoothly, and I have ease of mind knowing if something happens to my computer I can retrieve all of my files, photos and music.

I have been using so-far for 3 days. works excellent. I found elephantdrive and idrive are best backup products sofar. But idrive has storage limitation which makes elephant drive more attractive.

Not sure when they made the change but ElephantDrive is now a paid service. I was recommended by my office mate. So far so good...

We've used Elephantdrive for a year now and it has been an excellent service for us. A couple months back I accidentally saved over an important Word document but was able to easily retrieve the file back from Elepahntdrive. It's easy to use and because it's an off-site backup service my data is protected even if my home burns down. My only problem with it is that it was slow to do the initial backup because my broadband upload speed is only like 35KBs but that's not the fault of the service of course.

We use the home edition of Elephant Drive on our family PC. We took advantage of the two month free promo by paying $50 for one year. It's great that we have unlimited storage so we were able to backup all our pictures and movies too. I believe we have about 250 gigabytes of stuff backed up. Elephant Drive is definitely a great value and I heartily recommend it to everyone.

Fast and simple. I use it both for the backup and to be able to get to my files remotely.

Just some feedback.... I used the ElephantDrive system for moving my account from Xdrive. It took a little while to get started, but once it got going the transfer happened pretty fast (I didn't have that much there - only about 2 GB). It seemed pretty simple to me. I'll have to use the service for a while before I know if it will be a good replacement, but for now I'm giving it a shot.

I just switched from xdrive to elephantdrive. It is awesome. I'm a mac user who originally tried idisk (which sucked), then went to xdrive (which was ok, but is shutting down). Elephantdrive moved the data over for me and the network drive is like idisk (but it actually works).
thanks for the review - very helpful.

"Easy to set up and I use it a lot"
Pros: It works more consistently than my last backup service and I've found the web site very handy.
Cons: It doesn't look super cool like a lot of my other programs.
Summary: I've recommended ElephantDrive to literally dozens of people. It isn't slick, but it works. If you need something like this for backup, get it.
